Module 3, Lesson 18

Learning Goals

Read chapter 3 of The River Between Us.

Analyze how Tilly’s experiences shape her point of view of Delphine and Calinda, and how this point of view is reflected in her description of them. 

Answer the final questions at the bottom of Handout 18A.

Identify and interpret examples of dialects in the text, and explain key differences between characters' dialects. Instruct pairs to complete the remaining two columns on Handout 18B.

Learning Goals

Read Chapter 4 of The River Between Us

Make inferences about Delphine’s and Calinda’s characters, including their traits, thoughts, feelings, and backgrounds, based on their words and actions in chapter 4 of The River Between Us. Complete Handout 19A

Analyze differences in characters' dialects and how the author's use of dialect helps develop the characters. 

Pairs discuss and record their responses to the questions in Part 2.
